Leadership Reflection
Learning and research are integral to the role of a healthcare professional. It is therefore convenient if providers derive satisfaction from acquiring knowledge. This is much easier to do if the provider can realize and quantify what they’ve learned. Reflection is the vehicle by which providers can realize progression in learning (University of Kent, 2012). The Gibb’s Reflective Cycle is useful for leaders to understand the strengths and weaknesses of certain situations in self-reflection as well as subordinate coaching (MindTools, 2018). In addition, they think of novel ways to solve problems, and they have enough confidence to support their ideas from conception to implementation and beyond. I could improve my fitness as a leader if I generated more ideas that improve the facility I work for. Also, I have confidence in my ideas, but I need to work on supporting them. Working as an RN, it was not my responsibility to plan projects that address problems in the facility, so I didn’t think about it often. Furthermore, when I did have an idea, I didn’t act on it because I felt it was not my place to make recommendations. Throughout my progression in the D.N.P program, I’ve begun to shift my mindset to include ideas that could improve my employer’s facility. Similar to the diamond assessment, it showed that I overcome anxieties and fears. Moreover, it found that I am a highly determined individual who takes ownership of actions, which demonstrates trust and loyalty to others. Comparable to the diamond assessment, the personal values assessment found that I strive for effective endeavors. However, the assessment found that I focus primarily on personal pursuit’s, like relationships and finances. Interestingly, the personal values assessment suggests that I use experience for critical thinking and for guiding others.
