The first thing I have learned is about the contemporary philosophical language in utilizing the concept of compatibilism as big category instead of soft determinism or hard determinism. The concept of compatibilism is crucial to avoid the confusion and keep things straight in our mind. Chaos here is order, pattern, and consistency, the causality is represented by role in and role out. Finally, indeterminism believes in antecedent conditions and in free will.
I would reflect free will of those suffering from a mental illness as well as the influence free will has in patient care and practice of the psychiatric nurse. When a mental health nurse understands how free will impacts an individual with mental illness it will enhance the quality of care they give in their daily practice.
When a psychiatric nurse adheres to free will he or she will inherently believe that there is a relation between their patient’s mental illness and their ability to function in free will. When an individual suffers from a mental disorder the illness raises up an invisible fence in the mind that creates an obstruction for clear, uncompromised thinking and decision making to flow freely. As a result, the individual loses part of their freedom or free will. The individual that suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder has repeated, persistent and repetitive behaviors which occur involuntarily and cause the person to feel great anxiety if the desired compulsion is not fulfilled. The psychiatric nurse can support this individual in their journey of free will by providing a safe environment that offers them opportunities of limited and monitored
