Gun control laws take away the right of self-defense, denies the citizens a sense of safety, and the right to own guns for hunting and sport. Gun control laws and restrictions will not prevent criminals and the mentally ill from breaking laws or obtaining guns. Background checks and micro-stamping can as also be seen as an invasion of privacy. Gun control laws are seen as a punishment for innocent, law abiding citizens. Gun crimes are more publicized by the media due to the Obama Administrations quest for more gun control. They do not publicize car accidents, health reasons, suicides, and other deaths from other weapons as much as they do for gun related deaths. Gun safety classes are offered for pistols to ensure safe handling and shooting. Programs such as Johnny Appleseed, 4-H shooting sports, Civilian Marksmanship, and the NRA all promote safe gun handling and shooting programs for all ages. Some of these programs are geared toward children which starts them off at a young age teaching them about the dangers and safety of guns. There are many accidents involving children and the carelessness of the adults in not keeping the guns unloaded and locked up. Teaching children beforehand can help cut down on those accidents. Permits are also required for concealed carry for pistols. More people should take advantage of the programs and classes to become more informed and assist with safe handling of guns, adults need to be more careful with their firearms and keep them out of the hands of children. There is also a huge lack of respect for law enforcement because the media reports on things they do wrong instead of the things they do to assist others and keep the public safe. The media needs to show both sides of law enforcement's
