According to NIH (National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism), 5,000 people under the age of 21 die each year due to alcohol-related accidents, such as car wrecks, suicides, alcohol poisoning, homicides, burns, falls, and drownings("Under-aged”). However, think of the young men and women who have died to fend for our country, and not being able to have that first drink with their father, or go out and drink with their friends. Yes drinking can be dangerous in situations, but I believe that if a young man or woman can go die for their country, or even be able to make the important decision on who will lead our country. Then at the age of 18 we should be able to drink alcohol if we want. It can help teach responsibility and help us get through tough …show more content…
Because they think that we are not mature enough to handle alcohol at such a young age. However, they don 't trust us with alcohol and yet they trust us with a loaded weapon. People under 21 are trusted to pick and vote for a leader for our nation. The government doesn 't believe that alcohol will help us relieve stress. They think that millions of people have made it to the age of 21 without alcohol, so in that case we can to. That may be true but ask your self this. Have you ever come home from a long, tense, stressful day at work, and wanted to relax and drink cold beer. Well that 's how an 18 year old might feel during college. With finals or even mid-terms, an 18 year old 's life can be as stressful as a 30 year old adult. The government also doesn 't believe that they should lower the legal drinking age just because of casualties of soldiers under the age of 21.
