These three components are important because they make the teacher observe the children separately, then identify what the children need and make curriculum changes. During the first step the teacher will observer the children and make note on what they are doing socially and language wise. Then the teacher will take these notes and attempt to make sense of what the students need and what would benefit the students. Finally, make the change needed to benefit the students in the classroom. These three components will benefit the students and allow them to recieve instruction and curriculum that will be tailored to their needs. What does it mean to “build an insider view?”: Building an insider view mean understanding the community and culture of the individual classroom. As teaching building an insider view means observing the culture that surrounds you as a teacher. This mean developing insight into your own thinking and understanding of the world. It is important to know how the students think, but know how you think will allow you to make better decisions about the classroom. Children will be making hypotheses on what they think something says or how to pronounce something. Another thing that needs to be noted is children will make errors in languages, but these errors are okay and not random. Each error a child makes reflects the current schema the child is working through. As time continues children will connect their language with the environment that surrounds them. 2 Personal and sociocultural influences:Children’s interest, activities, events, and people will effect how children participate in literacy. Families are an important influence, families raise the children and some will involve their children in reading while other children will never see print until they walk into the classroom. Another thing that is important to note is literacy is more meaningful in a more diverse setting. These influences will come with each individual family and as a teacher it is our job to allow them to bring and create diversity in the classroom.
