For one,it is in the interest of tourists to maintain the environment as the quality of the environment is critical to the success of tourism. In most major tourist destinations it is the environment itself that attracts tourists. Yet tourism can have significant impacts on the environment. The impacts relate mainly to these main areas, strain on natural resources, pollution and physical impacts. Climate change and tourism are interlinked. Tourism contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, but most damage is caused from the transport of tourists. This transport sector includes air, car and rail. These sectors generate the largest proportion. Air being the largest contributor as it contributes to 54-75% of all emissions. It is responsible for 40% of the total carbon emissions created by the tourism sector. Other forms of transport such as coach and rail only are responsible for 13% of emissions. Most tourists are not aware of the amount of damage they are causing, this is why again education is key to rectifying a lot of these issues. Becoming responsible tourists is the first step. Putting into action plans to reduce carbon emissions, educate tourists and introduce carbon friendly technology are all ways to tackle this contemporary
