The obvious answer you will get is River Ganga. Many festivals are celebrated on banks of Ganga. Like Chhaht puja etc. People believe that if you take bath in Ganga your sins get washed away. People used to propel the ashes into the River in believe that they will attain “MOKSH”. Kumbh mela is also one of the biggest mela which is organized on the bank of River. Tourist from all over the world come there and worship river Ganga. Like per day crores of people visit River in the mela.
Industrial sector
Many industries which are located in the city where the River flows use the water of the River for their industries. The Industry also use the water to produce electricity which not only used by them but also available in public.

Ganga action plan: - Route in 1986, the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi dispatched Rs 462-crore venture to clean the Ganga in Varanasi. Under this plan sewage treatment plants were situated up, crude sewage was cut off and occupied, electric and wood crematoria was situated up and minimal effort sanitation offices were given. The Ganga Action Plan was not effective so disproved on 31 March 2000 yet stage II of the programme got support. Till Feb 2014 Rs 939 crore had been used on the Ganga Action Plan including 524 separate schemes.
Limitations of GAP: - Rajiv Gandhi and its government had plan to clean Ganga and that was started in 1986 but as the time started passing the expenses got increasing and due less labour and mismanagement of time work and labour and also the capital the plan didn’t work, as per the expectations.
