Personal Narrative: Delivering My Father

Delivering my son was one of the most heartfelt experiences in my life. Not because I gave birth to a beautiful and healthy baby boy, but because of the nurses who were beside me through the whole process. The care that they provided made my delivery a whole lot easier. I was afraid of everything, and they made me feel like there was nothing to be afraid of. Working in the emergency department I also get to see things from a different perspective. I see and feel things the nurses feel when they are taking care of patients. I’ve learned that nurses are the gateway to helping people feel better. It’s the way you treat them and the attention you give them. Medicine treats people, but the power in the way nurses treat their patients help them heal. It’s the compassion and the patient care is why I feel that I am made to be a nurse. To ensure my success in the accelerated nursing program, I have made limited commitments outside of school. I have committed five days a week for school and two days a week for work. Those two days of work will allow me to pay for my living expenses. I have an amazing boyfriend who has been caring enough to take care of some of my expenses that way I will only work two days a week. I have a car that is well maintained so I will have no problem getting to and from school. In case of an emergency I have another car that is available to me to use. As for my child, he already has a permanent babysitter that he goes to while my boyfriend or myself are at work. We have also hired an on call babysitter in case of any emergencies that may come up. My boyfriend is also able to work from home and take care of our son as a last resort. These resources will allow me to have ample amount of time to arrive to school in a timely manner and stay for the entire class time. This …show more content…
While there is little that we can do about it, I will try my best to plan ahead and coordinate so there is no need to miss any school unless absolutely necessary. In that case, I will make sure to inform all of my instructors as well and my advisor. The great thing about meeting with an advisor is that they let you know ahead of time and prepare you for what I feel is one of the most difficult part of the acceptance process: Financing the program costs. Because I was aware of the cost of school in advance, I was able to find different avenues to cover the expenses. One option is financial aid through FAFSA. Another option is through student loans, which I have already qualified for. Nursing school isn’t just to learn, but it is also there to help me prepare to the real thing. Professionalism is a key to success in the nursing program, so we must act like it while we are still learning. With careful and thorough planning for the next two years, this will help me get to where I want to be. While there will be obstacles, I know that being responsible and focusing on the goal will keep me moving forward.
