There are T.V. shows documenting survival of the fittest and proclaiming victory upon whoever is America’s strongest. Over time and after studying species throughout several centuries, it became apparent to Darwin that the process in which species survived was called natural selection. Darwin studied the important geographical distribution of species and found that in order for natural selection to occur the parents of the offspring must have important inheritable traits that would allow them to thrive in whatever conditions that surrounded them. It is simply comparative advantage for some species to be stronger and more adept and efficient than others. If there is a specific and large change within an environment that hosts a living being, then adaption is more likely to occur. For instance, during the Industrial Revolution, soot and waste darkened the tree trunks surrounding many factories, which in turn lead to the decrease in rarity of the dark colored moth. However, the light colored moths in the surrounding area became virtually non-existent, illustrating a rapid example of small, but important evolutionary adjustment. Natural selection is a theory that has never stopped occurring. Humans have evolved, are still evolving, and will continue to evolve until the end of time. In present times we can now treat or altogether resist certain diseases that our bodies once could not handle before. There are more and more people who are resistant to malaria today that live in Africa than ever before. Malaria was once one of the world’s leading causes of death and was often viewed as a strong selective force upon humans. Genes involved in malaria resistance are excellent examples of recent strong selection, which means that these individuals are more likely to be able to live longer in their specific location. Another example is the fact that we don’t need our wisdom teeth and usually choose to have them
