H.G Wells and Liang Qichao were both against imperialism. Through his book The Time Machine the time traveler met with the “two natives inhabitants”. This followed a traditional European view that there was the nice and superior tribe, the Eloi, which welcome the foreigners and the evil tribe, the Morlock, who were savages. Throughout the book, Wells reveals that the Eloi’s were, in fact, the inferior race. The Eloi at some point were over power by the inferior race of the Morlocks ,and have since live in feor. This concept helps to demonstrate Wells thoughts that at some point the imperialize will rise and overthrow the inferior race. Qichao believed that nationalism and imperialism were interconnected. Without the influence of nationalism, without the ‘leftover’ pride of nationalism, imperialist countries wouldn't believe in the idea that their country is superior to the others which as a result promoted the idea that to show your superiority an empire is needed.
