Dear Representative Bruce Westerman:
I am Cheyenne Chriestenson, and I am a resident of Texarkana, Arkansas. The legislation addressing Immigration Reform is a big concern to me because it is highly affecting our workforce, economy, and numerous other areas of the United States. The current immigration system is broken. I am urging you to reform the immigration laws because immigrants are coming across the borders without consent of the United States which makes the immigrants illegal. This issue is directly impacting jobs in Texarkana, due to the owners of businesses are more willing to hire an illegal immigrant rather than a U.S citizen. But …show more content…
According to Krogstand and Passel, “Unauthorized immigrants make up 5.1% of the U.S. labor force. In the U.S. labor force, there were 8.1 million unauthorized immigrants either working or looking for work in 2012. Among the states, Nevada (10%), California (9%), Texas (9%) and New Jersey (8%) had the highest shares of unauthorized immigrants in their labor forces.” Thus meaning that illegal immigrants are taking job opportunities that American citizens could embrace in order to make a living. Instead thousands of citizens are out of a job, because businesses would rather hire illegal immigrants. Owners choose to employ illegal immigrants because “Illegal immigrants do not generate high tax revenue because of their low wages,” states Kellie Longo- Albarron; who is a Government Affairs contact. Illegal immigrants work for less wages than the American citizen. Citizens tend to want more money in order to live a good life, but illegal immigrants will take less because it is more than what they would normally make back where they are from. But the people are beginning to realize that the illegal immigrants are taking over a majority of job opportunities that America has to offer. Illegal immigrants are taking over the jobs such as construction, contracting, and industrializations, due to working for lower wages.
