Did you know what percentages of the immigrants live in the United States? It is approximately 41.3 million immigrants over the total population of 316.1 million, which is about 13% and it’s more that a lot (by Zong and Batalova). These are the people who migrate from different countries to seek a better life. On the other hand, these are the people who struggled the most because they are treated as an outsider most of the time. I relate to this because I myself am an immigrant to this country. I am treated as a competitor everyday due to only reason that I’m not a citizen of this country. For example- around two years ago I was working at Fry’s electric store, where I got promoted after year of hard work with loyalty to a …show more content…
As we have seen many times citizens treated immigrants as an outsider because they come from different countries. Also for this reason immigrants face many obstacles in their paths relating to wages, injustice and inequality. For example, in the “Your ikea prices fucked our minimum wages” (Sia). Basically, the author is stating that the high price of the Ikea store is very challenging to afford by the immigrants because of their minimum wages. After reading this author’s statement, I also agree with it because in my past quarter I took women’s history class where I read an article called “Labor Force Segregation”, which stated that occasion white women get five cents more than other ethnicity women because of immigrant discrimination. After this example, we might have the idea that white people are just operating immigrants as a labor; they don’t even care about being fair to them. Another quote, which also supports this idea, “Your children are too spoiled to stop the “Immigration problem” (Sia). Author is trying to convey the reader through this quote that the spoiled children of citizens are not helping immigrants to resolve their problem because they don’t even care about them and their struggles. Immigrants are considered as personal slaves by the children of citizens and assumed that they don’t have any right to say a word against the …show more content…
For example, “The generation cleaning your toilet will beget the generation during your taxes, will beget your son-in-law” (Sia). The quote articulates that one day the hard work of the immigrants will lead them to an upgraded position, where they will be on the same level as the citizen of that country. For example, the immigrants’ people who were doing lower jobs at low wages like farming, plumbing, and cleaning will beat to the citizen jobs by their hard work and patience. Another quote which also support the idea, “We are tried of sleeping where your waste is sent, so we comin’ over”(Sia). Therefore in this quote author is saying that where you put your trash, we were over there because you make us to do low and small jobs, but now with our hard work we are coming over for better jobs. Example from my personal life- my uncle started to work at a restaurant when he newly comes from India. The only reason he worked at the restaurant was because he didn’t know how to speak English. No one was hiring him except for the restaurant and with his dedication and hard work he owns a restaurant himself
