The evolution of new organisms and their origins are discussed in Ted Daeschler and Neil Shubin’s Fossil Discovery and the Origin of Tetrapods. Tetrapod are species that have four limbs and originated from finned animals. According to Daeschler and Shubin, the oldest evidence of tetrapod is the 375 million years old Tikaalik roseae. This species helped aid in the discovery of how species transitioned from “fish-to-tetrapod.” Aquatic animals and land animals have different characteristics due to their environment.…
During the “Whale Tales” I observed, that the Pakicetus was more of a land animal that had a long skull and long teeth unlike the Ambulocetus which had more aquatic lifestyle with shorter legs, feet enlarged like paddles, and had a long and muscular tale. In other words, the Pakicetus was a land animal and had land features unlike the Ambulocetus which lived in the ocean and had body features for swimming. This means that the Ambulocetus evolved from the Pakicetus because one was a land animal while the other one was a water animal and had similar body parts. This shows evolution because it shows that these two whales evolved from each other from being a land animal who could barely swim to a water animal who barely lived on land. This supports my claim because it shows how evolution occurred with whales and it compared two…
Imagine having to give a presentation in class on a topic that is completely new to you. Your research consists only of typing the topic into Google and copying down the definition that pops up, and that is it. When you go to give your presentation, you put up a slide with only that definition on it. How well do you think that presentation will go? Probably not real great because the context is missing.…
Construction workers were just digging on a mountain in Santa Cruz County, California. They were surprised when they came across fossils during their dig, but it's not unusual to find fossils in a mountainous area. what was extremely odd about this fossil is that it was an almost completely intact fossil of a whale. Whales in the mountains How did the whale get there?…
By examining characteristics such as skeletal structures as well as specialized systems within both species conclusions can be made as to what role these characteristics play for those remaining in…
The three-spined stickleback fish is a well known fish to Alaskans it has two pointy spikes on its back and it is a yellowish brown color. It is located in the Pacific Ocean and some salt water lakes near Alaska. The first recorded spotting of the stickleback was in 1964. The rates of fish being caught near Alaska have been recorded for many years and the rate of stickleback caught in the 1990's is double what is being caught now. Mating occurs in early spring and summer for these fish and it starts with the male building a hollow nest with seaweeds or aquatic plants.…
1. In the documentary video of Judgement Day: Intelligent Design on Trial, the basic conflict in the town of Dover, PA is that the school board of Dover High school intended to introduce the theory of Intelligence Design to the science class in the ninth grade, trying to break the exclusive mode of setting Darwin’s evolution theory as monopoly. Some residents, mainly the parents of the ninth grade students who insisted their beliefs on Darwin’s theory sued the school board for enforcing the teaching policies of including the intelligence design theory in the science classes. 2. The basic principles and origin of the theory of evolution by natural selection is that species arise and develop through the natural selection of small, inherited variations…
Bearded dragons are native to the deserts of Australia, and as such, thrive in hot environments. However, they need some water too and striking that delicate balance between humidity and heat can cause some health issues. Like most infections and diseases, it all goes back to husbandry. Like all reptiles, bearded dragons are prone to respiratory infections. These are typically caused by their habitat being too cold or too humid.…
The reading states that dinosaurs are endotherms and provides three reasons of support. In contrast, the professor explains that scientist have serious problems regarding this issue and mentions that it was not proved, and repudiates each of the author's reasons. Fisrt, the article claims that dinosaurs fossils have been found in polar regions which just endotherms can live. Conversely, the speaker refutes this point by imaprting that the area where dinosaurs been was warmer than today. He asserts that dinosaurs have maigrated during cold weather and seasons.…
The Family Tetraodontidae and its Toxic Defense Mechanism Tetraodontidae, a family commonly known as the pufferfish, uses unique defense mechanisms in the wild to protect themselves against predators. Pufferfish diet consists mainly of invertebrates, so they are not viewed as dangerous or predatory animals in their ecosystems. These defense mechanisms are necessary to the survival of the Tetraodontidae family. The Tetraodontidae family’s defense mechanisms of inflation and use of the deadly neurotoxin tetrodotoxin make the family especially devastating to any predator that dares to ingest it.…

My genius hour topic for 2017 was based upon animal extinction. For me, animals are highly important to this world, and we humans are going against animal species, leading up to my inspiration to choose the topic I went with. My starting plan was to go without a partner because that way, I could take all the decisions without having to care for someone else. Once I decided to go on without a partner, I decided to do a website that I could display my topic on, being the easiest option I could take. But I was a bit wrong, making a website isn’t difficult, but finding sources to back up my topic was quite a challenge, because there weren’t many sources talking about how animal extinction can affect us humans.…
