Fracking, short for Hydraulic Fracturing is a process that uses water and other fluids from underground by cracking the shell and collecting the gas that escapes. Wasting the water is not the only problem during Fracking as the water that was used in the Fracking process is now contaminated and the only way to dispose of it is to store It in lagoons that eventually pollute rivers and the water supply.
There have been several incidents and documentaries that show water that caught flame when it was exposed to flame when it run down the faucet. The Fracking companies are countering the attacks made by these documentaries by creating their own assumptions and documentaries. They are telling the people that methane in water supplies had been there for decades. They’re also showing people with flammable water coming out of faucets that live …show more content…
Although there have been found sites where biological methane is present in wells such as several regions in Pennsylvania and New York. That was why companies held their ground saying fracking has no connections with methane in surrounding water aquifers. That all changed after scientists discovered that the methane in water wells near natural gas wells was old and therefore, the cause of Hydraulic Fracturing. (Biello, 2011)
New York is one of the states that banned fracking but why shouldn’t all states? Hydraulic Fracking is polluting lakes, rivers, and water supplies. Where there is fracking, faucets don’t have only methane in them, they also have lubricants that are like dish soap and many other hundreds of chemicals that can possibly cause diseases and can cause hormone imbalance. The companies are defending themselves by saying their chemicals are normal chemicals in the household like dish soap but who’d like dish soap coming down their
