Humans interact with nature by admiring its beauty. People study and look at nature with wonder and awe. Many people don’t understand the science behind nature but that doesn’t stop them from basking in it. How did something so beautiful happen? What could have caused it? These are some questions that people might say when they are in nature and they start observing their surroundings. Many are pleasantly surprised at what they find. The first source that properly demonstrates the interaction of humans and nature is “Called Out” by Barbara Kingsolver and Steven Hopp. In the article, Kingsolver describes herself finding beautiful flowers blooming in the desert at an unusual time of year. Many people question why the flowers suddenly grew there. Some say that it was just loose seeds scattered around the soil, finally ready to grow or that it was by natural selection. Some even say that it was God’s doings that brought forth the flowers. Kingsolver and her group thoroughly enjoy the presence of the flowers even if they don’t understand them. The second source is “ In Defense of the Everglade Pythons” by Andrew C. Revkin. In this piece, he describes an author by the name of Emma Marris who wants to protect the pythons. O.E. Wilson, an esteemed environmentalist, has his own viewpoint on the pythons which is that the pythons are vile creatures who are a disgrace to the area in which they live. He wants them to all be hunted down and cleared out of the area. Marris counters

In Rewilding Our Hearts by Marc Bekoff (2014), he addresses how humans can change their ways to contribute to the restoration of environments damaged by human action or lack thereof. He argues that though there has been a paradigm shift in the ways in which we perceive animals has changed through beginning to see non-human animals as sentient beings (Bekoff 2014, pg. 1), there is still more change that people must become more involved with. And that is to save the ecosystems and provide protection for non-human animals and the environments they live in. Bekoff (2014) presents numerous factors in how we can contribute to a successful rewilding process such as compassion (pg. 4). Douglas’ (2015) also mentions compassion in his list of steps in how to transform society.…

Exploring the idea that nature is constructed as a theory, one might come to understand that nature consists of people and how they interact with each other. People change nature, but nature can change on its own and it might change in ways that one never thought possible.
