The Mexicans’ reaction to the annexation of Texas also played an important role in deciding whether or not to go to war with Mexico. For example, President Polk stated in his message to Congress, “The invasion was threatened solely because Texas determined…to annex herself to our Union;…”. As, seen Mexico did not receive America’s addition of Texas as an occasion of happiness. The country felt betrayed and hurt, even though America had done no injustice to it – in fact, it was Texas who had commited the misdeed. On the other hand, there are the Mexicans who believe America’s annexation of Texas was unacceptable (Doc. C). These citizens saw Texas as a state of great political power (due to all the Americans residing there), as well as a protective border (the dry, barren land made it hard for terrorists and the like to enter Mexico). Although one can concede that Mexico’s loss of Texas was terribly difficult for the Mexicans to cope with, it is more probable that Mexico did not want America to have the land as it feared America’s dominance in North America. Take, for instance, John Sullivans’s idea of Mexico being an idiotic and uncoordinated country that can never fully prove its dominance over all of its land (Doc. A). Even though it has a bias towards how poorly functional Mexico’s government is, it still has remnants of truth buried within. More specifically, the initial point as to why Texas annexed itself to America was because it felt a sort of freedom under America’s reign. It had never sensed this type of security or feeling under Mexico’s rule. In addition , Texas would have never experienced the power America gave it, had not Mexico allowed America to come into its lands. Thus, Mexico acted irrationally when it became upset over the annexation of Texas, for it brought this fate upon itself, and did not know how to handle itself properly after the event
