How To Go To Founder's Day

Decent Essays
On September 29th, Regis students, staff and faculty celebrated Founder's Day, which is a day that recognizes the day when the Sisters of Saint Joseph arrived in Boston. This year Regis held a day of service which included many activities and opportunities to volunteer. You could have helped with community cleanups, helped at local shelters, participated in the blood drive, created a care package for soldiers, sang at mass at Bethany Health Care in Framingham and so on.

I participated in creating care package to the American soldiers. Having many family members in the service helping out with the care packages felt close to home. Several tables had been created in the College Hall Foyer in Regis that was dedicated to making care packages. There were many people that occupied these tables. I was a part of a group making personal cards to put into the care packages. Multiple care package boxes were packed with necessities for the soldiers. Hundreds of Regis community members took part in the day’s festivities and volunteered their services. What I learn from this experience is that community service can be enjoyable.

Not only is the participant regarded in higher esteem, the participant gets to take part in a satisfying experience that helps others in their community. Many people believe that there is nothing they can do to help in their communities, but that is simply not the case. There are opportunities in every community; you just have to dig deeper and look for them. I think the best part about community service is that you get to see your few minutes, hours, or days make a change for the better. In the past years I have participated in a variety of service activities that I have thoroughly enjoyed.…

That helped me look at life in a simpler way, and taught me to put aside anything I was going through to make this young student’s day. I’ve also had the chance to see the unfairness of the world impacting those in my community when I volunteered at two Center for Human Development (CHD) programs. I have helped out at the Grace House, a program for mothers who are in recovery from addiction, and their children. I’ve also helped at a farm share held for homeless families in CHD shelters, which provides them with free…

I am greatly honored to be one of the selected students who are being considered for the Spring induction of National Honor Society. As a current eleventh grade student, I believe that I have exceeded in demonstrating all four qualities of the National Honor Society. With my previous experience in the National Junior Honor Society, I have bestowed the ideals to my community as of the beginning of my middle school career. This has led me to take pride in the community around me and help create a greater society with the foundation that the National Junior Honor Society has introduced to me. The quality of Service is an ideal that I can directly relate to through personal experience, therefore creating significance in my life.…

I believe that I should be chosen to attend SUMMET because I am passionate about engineering and technology. I first fell in love with technology and engineering when I was 14. After my robotics team fell apart, I was invited to participate in a robotic team of five members in a rural community forty-five miles from my home. I struggled to find people who shared my passion at a school with 100 high school students. In this new team, I found my future, but I also found struggles.…

Community service means to help out those who are in need. To give some of your own time to be able to assist those who are less fortunate. During the Special Olympics I went with my AFJROTC group to volunteer our time to help out with the event. We helped out to run the games and make sure everything ran smooth for the participants. It was an enjoyable event but what really made it worthwhile was to see all of the kids being so excited to be able to compete in the event.…

I am truly honored as being a nominee for the Easton Chapter National Honor Society. The standards that must be proven to be nominated by this prestigious society are an example of the hard work and dedication I have exemplified in school. Throughout my years of schooling, I have tried my hardest to get good grades, while also demonstrating the characteristics that make up the National Honor Society; they are leadership, service, and character. While I have exhibited all three throughout my educational career, I feel that my service characteristic stands out above the rest. Service can mean many things, but to me, it means helping someone perform a task they can’t complete themselves, sacrificing your time, and assisting the less fortunate.…

Experiences like this have opened my eyes to the lives of others and the importances of being a kind and gracious person that is willing to provide joy to others. An elderly woman who got to take part in a high school community service project states, “Many think that volunteering is all about what you give. But what catches you by surprise is how much you receive in return.” This demonstrates why many people do not feel that they should give back because they do not believe the benefits that they can get from it as well. Consequently, when creating that feeling of happiness and satisfaction in someone else’s life, it comes back to the person creating it. Volunteering to help someone get tutored, help the handicapped, involve themselves with a program like Meals on Wheels, certain environmental work, etc., not only does one gain from that, but one’s community has been helped because of them.…
