He didn’t mind being home once in a while, but Xavier had anger issues and would take it all out on Lamar. As he is not confrontational, he would simply leave the house. As if Xavier’s anger issues weren’t enough everywhere he went people chatted about his basketball games and how he has put Coffin, Indiana, on the map. Comments about his brother bothered him greatly. No one bothered to ask him how his bowling games were going, all he wanted was a bit of attention, but it was always about his brother and his basketball games. There wasn’t a day that would go by without his brother getting on his case and how his bowling would get him nowhere. One day Xavier took it far as to rip his mother’s sticky note that she wrote for Lamar that was on the mantel, which led Lamar and Xavier to say cruel things to each other, “I hate you!”…”I hate you, too, Lamar. No matter how many trophies I put on that mantel, it was never enough for mom. You were her favorite. But guess what? You’re not getting dad.” These were the moments in witch Lamar would have truly needed his mother as she was always supporting him, believing in him, and kept the peace between them. As she was no longer in the picture it was a race against time to see who would get the father’s
