This novel is a non-fiction memoir of Varun’s experience and struggles he had while founding his own start-up called Alma Mater, way back in 2009. Varun begins the book by telling the readers that he had absolutely no clue as to what he wanted to do in his life apart from the fact that he wanted to carry out his own business. Varun has depicted himself as a confused but determined youngster in this book. Varun truly exemplifies the saying by R.W. Emerson, which is, “Go not where the paths may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail behind.”
On the other hand Anu Aunty is a character in the book. I believe her character is also a symbolism for all those elements of society who constantly tries to bring one down, tries to stop one from doing what they want to and encourages one to follow the path, which everyone else follows rather than make a path for oneself.

Varun was inspired by a rickshaw pullers story, the story Mr. Rajan told him on the airplane. Friends also become an incredible help at times just like Varun got his friends to model for him for free and this also helped creating a buzz about Alma Mater.
