20 years ago, people did not imagine what a device of the size of the palm of your hand could do. Communication in the past two decades has evolved incredibly. It has shortened the biggest distances in unthinkable ways. Undoubtedly, the evolvement of the telephone is the biggest attraction for people of all ages. Landlines were the main source of communication in the past. Cellphone use was uncommon, because it was at its beginning. At that time they were used just for calling; there was no existence of text messages. A cell model well known at that time was the Nokia 8110. It created a fashion trend; because its distinctive styling was the first example of a “slider” form factor. It has a sliding cover that protected the keypad when being carried in the pocket and extended downwards in use, bringing the microphone closer to the mouth. This magnificent model weighed 0.31 lb. Its dimensions were 141 x 48 x 25 mm. This model is part of the process of creation of the new generation in which we live today. A device that has changed the way we receive information and a source of endless entertainment is the television. Television in 1994 was totally different from what we are used to today. The video quality, the TV’s sizes, and the channels quantity are the aspects to take more into consideration. At that time the best quality you could find was standard resolution. Even though it is not the most impressive resolution we have seen, it was a great progress in TV’s story, because we had found the way to bring the black and white images, to color. The sizes of the TV’s started to be bigger than at its beginning. You could find TVs between nine inches to 28 inch. Despite that we see big changes, the channels quantity had not changed much compared to previous years. However, it would make a big impact in our society few years later. Another big change has been the internet. It started back in the 60s. It means 20 years ago, it was not very common among us yet. Our world revolves around technology. Each day, we are in a continuous development of our technology, where we have smaller cellphones, but capable of great things. You are able to send messages, call, surf online, and watch TV with just the simple fact of having a smartphone. These factors make communication possible between people who are in different parts of the world.
In addition to, internet is the main source of our social networks, which are the mass media that connect the whole world. Its improvement helped create a link between information and human beings.
Communication has changed drastically and these changes have modified human life in many ways, but changes always bring with them negatives consequences. How modern communication has affected negatively humans?
In my point of view, conversations nowadays are more superficial. We live in world where a face to face conversation became a call, and then a message. As a consequence, you get away from people who are close to you. It makes us realize, we are closer to the people who are far, but we are also farther to the people that are around
