How Does Buck Mature

Improved Essays
Being mature is challenging, and you have to persevere at the same time. Buck had to push through the tough times. In contrast, my mom had many challenging moments in her life, that wasn’t as harsh. It still affected her just as much. While Buck and my mom differ, they both experienced death and pain. Perseverance can be very hard to do, but you always have to push through it. Buck had to push through the harsh and painful experiences he had been through. One of Buck’s experiences was getting beaten by a club. He was beaten by the man in the red sweater. He fought the man in the red sweater because he was mad he got taken from his home in California. Buck never stopped fighting until he physically couldn’t fight anymore. Another experience

Like when the man in the red sweater beat Buck to make him cooperate, it’s kind of like when Megan’s teachers would keep asking her about her homework, and pushing her to do better and to study for tests. Also, when Buck witnessed a dog fight and he was scared and worried that he would be killed like that if he didn’t keep up with the others, is a lot like when Megan witnessed everyone else get good grades and she didn’t because she slacked off, until a few months before she graduated, she was scared that she wouldn’t graduate and have to retake the twelfth grade. Not to mention when Buck was scared that he wouldn’t keep up and that he wouldn’t last till the end of the year, and that he would be killed, that’s similar to what happened to Megan, she was scared that she wouldn’t be able to make it and that she wouldn’t graduate, she was scared and worried, that she wouldn’t graduate and go to a bad college, she was constantly worried and on edge. Buck and Megan sure are different, but they are also similar in ways that connect us with the…

Kill or be killed is the only morality among the dogs of the Klondike, as Buck realizes from the moment he steps off the boat and watches the violent death of his friend Curly. The wilderness is a cruel, uncaring world, where only the strong prosper. It is, one might say, a perfect Darwinian world, and London’s depiction of it owes much to Charles Darwin, who proposed the theory of evolution to explain the development of life on Earth and envisioned a natural world defined by fierce competition for scarce resources. The term often used to describe Darwin’s theory, although he did not coin it, is “the survival of the fittest,” a phrase that describes Buck’s experience perfectly. In the old, warmer world, he might have sacrificed his life out of moral considerations; now, however, he abandons any such considerations in order…
