Thank you for your questions. As I mentioned, companies expect their employee’s loyalty and dedication for their job. Additionally, the company also expects their employees to follow their core values, including honesty, helping others, making the right decisions, reliability, positive attitude, team leadership and more. “When values are out of alignment, people work towards different goals, with different intentions, and with different outcomes. This can damage work relationships, productivity, job satisfaction, and creative potential.”…
The events that unfolded during Jane Elliott’s investigation seen in the video ‘How Racist are You?’ are significant in demonstrating how society contributes to the worldwide problem of racism and prejudice, without even necessarily realising it. By sparking a discussion between those that have had to deal with discrimination all their lives and those who are seen in society as ‘privileged’, it became very apparent that the ‘privileged’ do not think that minority groups have been hard done by. This is noteworthy for it demonstrates that without even realising it, one can be discriminatory and make prejudiced remarks, while still believing they are in the right. As seen in Jane Elliott’s experiment, many issues arose in regards to discrimination and stereotyping.…
The Beard or the Job With a diverse workforce comes a plethora of religious beliefs, practices, and observances. As stated by Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, it is unlawful for an employer to discriminate against employees and potential employees based on nationality, gender, race, color, or religion. Further, an employer must make reasonable accommodations for an employee’s religious beliefs and observances, as long as the accommodations do not cause the organization undue hardship in their business. Presented the case of Siddiq Abu-Bakris against the School District of Philadelphia where the employer failed to reasonably accommodate his religious beliefs and practices.…
With each new generation, influences come from broad forces such as parents, media, social events, popular culture, natural disasters, world events, and peers (Schullery, 2013). These groups may have participated in “equivalent historical experiences” or were subjected to similar social forces and as a result have “consonant world views” (Alderfer, 1987, p. 238). These shape generations and create common value systems that distinguish them from people who were raised in different times (Twenge et al., 2010). These value systems can then transfer with each generation into the workplace (Twenge et al, 2010). As Twenge et al.…

In contemplating the different facets of occupation and the world of work, it is conceivable that one may overlook the significance of a person’s attitude on how a job is done or handled. This therefore, poses an interesting question, which is, in what way does a person’s attitude influence their working life? How can someone’s attitude towards their job have an impact on it, and in turn, on themselves? As defined by Merriam-Webster Dictionary, attitude is “a mental position or feeling/emotion with regard toward a fact or state.” Utilizing this definition in regards to our aforementioned questions, we can draw answers from the 1998 novel, Bringing out the Dead, by Joe Connelly.…
Personal beliefs can affect the typical worker in any work environment, not in just a law firm. The best example for personal beliefs in the workforce can be identified with religion. Religion is one the largest topics of personal beliefs because something out of the ordinary that interferes with a worker's religious beliefs can create chaotic results in the workforce. In Hobby Lobby, their Christian belief systems had a controversy for paying for birth control to their workers. AT&T's workers are currently undergoing a strike because they do not want their job being outsourced to other countries.…
First, the four R’s should be a principle in this globalize world. By respecting and recognizing everyone we can create relationships, and by creating relationships we can understand people’s intrinsic and extrinsic motivations to reward them. Respecting different perspectives helps by decreasing the conflict in the workplace which overall will create harmony and people can work towards the same goal. Recognizing the achievements of our peers can help us build relationships that would help us increase our certainty and trust each other.…
From the MBTI test, I found out my personality type is ENTJ. From this test I learned that I express the ”charm and finesse of a world leader or with the insensitivity of a cult leader. " I also learned that I am described as "larger than life", so when dealing with customers I make it hard for them to decline service. From this I did know that I stick to thinking by using logic and reasoning rather than emotions. Last, I do agree somewhat agree with ENTJs being described as decisive, I often remain resolute in conflict, however, I will consider others opinions.…
Huber described leadership as “an activity of human engagement and a relationship experience founded in trust, communication, inspiration, action, and servanthood” (2014, p. 2). Exceptional leaders gain staff respect by building a mutual relationship of trust. The relationship strengthens over time as staff becomes increasingly comfortable approaching their leader with questions, concerns, etc… and their leader responds with active listening, suggestions aimed towards guidance and encouraging staff to think critically and develop answers for themselves. Communication should be mutually open and respectful. A leader needs to be able to emit they are approachable and available at all times.…
INTRODUCTION Work Based Learning is a way of gaining qualification either through volunteering, unpaid or paid placement. According to Lemanski et al (2011), “work based learning describes a multiplicity of approaches by which an individual can learn through work”. This report will focus on describing how traditional education can be blended with experience in the work place, principles of volunteering and a reflective diary of the wider community in one of the charity shops in Edmonton called Sue Ryder. “Sue Ryder provides care for people with incurable and life-changing illness and campaigns for them to get the support they need”.…
Final Project Throughout this semester, we have discussed numerous ethical theories. Not only have I learned new things related to ethics, but I have been able to relate them to my own life, which may benefit me in the future. Out of the numerous theories that we discussed, a few of them stuck out to me.…
Reading the text, the first important ideas that interested me were coping with pressures, identifying legal and ethical issues, diversity in the work setting, and looking ahead. The reason I found coping with pressures important because in the book it communicates that when you first start at a practicum site there is a transitional phase. Moreover, the book goes on to give effective strategies to help adjust to all the pressures that can happen when first starting a practicum. For instance, the book states (Chiaferi & Griffin, 1997) that it is important to understand that we affect our practicum experience, so it is important to remember to be aware of how we react or how we handle our own attitudes.…

(Young, 2015) Sure there are times when those morals and values can be changed, but more than likely, they have already been taught what to think and believe. If those ideals do not match up with the company’s values and convictions, then there will be a hard time getting the employee to conform to the company’s policies. So far, this has not been an issue at the Electronic Office because people are evaluated with crucial questions during the interview process. It does not mean that everyone in the company believes everything in the same manner and there is always room for improvement on both sides of the coin if a dispute…
