Seeing as though the United States was still a young country (based on the age of other countries by the time the United States was active in major wars and political battles/feuds), people were determined to help the country come out on top and therefore, numerous significant contributions were made. Similar people back then purchased bonds, as well as, sold many of their valuables as a means of funding the soldiers, they also sacrificed filling dinners and went without things like sugar, oats, and/or wheat for days in an effort to keep the troops from starving. Many also helped by joining organizations that cared for overseas soldiers such as the American Red Cross, and sent medical supplies and equipment such as medicine, bandages, and sterilized needles/scalpels (since the war was after Louis Pasteur's discoveries of bacteria during the Industrial
