How Did Gps Change The World

The world was in need of a new way to travel. The Harrison brothers, John and James, solved this problem. They created the technology that influenced the GPS that we have today. Without their precision clocks to find where their boat is in the ocean, we would not be able to use GPS to find where to go. First, GPS can give directions to anywhere you want to go. You just plug the address into the GPS, and it will give you directions to that place. It is also accessible on many devices and it's portable. GPS can also be used to keep you safe. The invention of GPS has changed the way the world travels with its safety, portability, and reliability. GPS has improved the way we travel by giving us directions to anywhere we want to go. Before there was GPS, drivers had to bring a giant roadmap with them, and use it to find where they were going. Now, you just put the address into the GPS, and it will give you directions on where to go. Some GPS systems can even talk to you to give you directions. If you ever get lost while you are driving or if your on foot, GPS can lead you back to wherever you want to go. You can almost never get lost. About fifteen percent of the time, GPS has been used to find a hospital or doctors office when injuries happen. This could be safer because if they only has a cut, you don't need to wait for an ambulance or for help, which wastes more time, you can just use GPS to find the closest place to go to get help. Pokemon Go launched in the United States during the summer of 2016. In the game, players use the global positioning system (GPS) on their smartphone technology, in order “to locate, capture, battle, and train virtual creatures” (Grover). As a result, this game forces players to go outside and be more active, instead of playing a game inside their home, and to discover the “real” world in a different perspective. While all three have been respectively relevant throughout history, with gun powder changing the face of modern warfare; the compass evolved into the GPS and other direction giving devices. The printing press is the one invention that still stands out as one of the most positively beneficial inventions of all time, because of its ability to duplicate and spread knowledge to the masses. Community Corrections is the supervision of criminal offenders in the resident population instead of incarceration. Probation and parole are the two most common types of community corrections; they are used federally in the United States and locally in all 50 states. Supervision is one role that probation and parole officers deal with; helping with that task is Global Positioning System (GPS) monitoring. Monitoring an offender using technology was developed by Harvard students, Ralph Kirkland Gable and with William S. Hurd, obtaining a patent (#3,478,344) in 1964. The ankle monitor, which is still used today, was a subsequent invention from that patent.…

Since the system uses GPS the location is much more precise then just a best estimate of where the plane is. If it goes down they will know the exact location of the crash site and be able to dispatch search and rescue to the location. The time that is saved by going direct instead of searching may save lives. If a plane goes off course before going down it will be even better since the GPS would have tracked it during the entire flight. It will save time and resources not to mention they will most likely be able to locate the aircraft unlike now where it may take months of searching large expanses of ocean and possibly turn up nothing.…

Throughout the history people have used maps in order to locate themselves and their points of interest. Instruments like compass, hourglass and quadrant assisted sailors to navigate and arrive at a particular location. Navigation and positioning, as most fields of life, have advanced and improved since then, and at the present are easier than ever thanks to the Internet and sophisticated technological devices. Global Positioning System, or better known as GPS, is the United State of America’s system of positioning which operates using several satellites to locate a point anywhere on Earth. In addition to its pin-pointing service, GPS also aids its users by giving the best route to a certain location as well as instructions on how to get there.…
