Christopher Columbus made the best of an accident when the Santa Maria, his ship, crashed into the Americas. He brought many new tales and resources back to Europe that would forever change the course of history. Columbus should be remembered as a wonderful explorer for his contributions to developing the New World.

While exploring the coasts of the Americas, Columbus created many trading relationships and exchanges that would later be important to the course of history. When Columbus first adventured onto the coast of the Americas, he established relationships with the First Nations living there that soon helped future trading with the Europeans, and developing trade routes further into the Americas. Furthermore, Columbus began the Columbian Exchange that brought many new creatures and resources that would later develop much of the future Canada’s industry. We use the bees, mules, cattle, goats and horses that ventured over here as a result of this incident in our farming today, and this has shaped much of our worldview and culture in Canada. Today, we still continue to trade overseas with Europe and Asia. Without Columbus there to plant the seeds, it is likely that we would have had to wait a while for these exchanges to start, and therefore cannot determine what the present Americas would look like. To summarize, Columbus played a major role in the starting of a trading industry that we can still see the effects of today. Not only did Columbus help found a huge sustaining industry, but he was one of the first explorers to attempt to colonize the Americas, and the person to set about the “Age of Exploration” that changed everything.

As we know, the Santa Maria crashed into the shores of the new world, leaving Columbus and his crew with one less boat. He decided to leave behind a boat of men with enough supplies to last them for a while, until they could sustain themselves. Although this mission to colonize failed, Columbus took a huge step for Spain that would ignite the flame of exploring the Americas. Many countries such as France and England wanted to expand their borders and imperialize the land and resources. This would soon lead to the further development and colonization of the Americas. Without Columbus's attempt at colonizing the new world, it is impossible to determine what present day Canada would look like. If England and France hadn't been motivated to colonize, we would probably not have had the battles that had determined the borders and culture of today such as the “War of 1812”. So, Columbus brought on a wave of exploration as a result of his first expedition and attempt to colonize, that has changed the outcome of our newer countries today. Columbus's adventures brought many new ideas and new knowledge to Europe that would entice people to explore and develop the Americas. For example, the knowledge of a new land with bountiful resources motivated many countries to start exploring. Many countries wanted to obtain the newfound resources of beaver fur and cod that were very abundant in the land, or expand their borders to calm their overpopulated cities, so this knowledge was very intriguing to Europe. Furthermore, Columbus proved that the new technologies used in exploring such as the new ships and creation
