Early life history Hosea was the first of the twelve Minor Prophets. Hosea appeared around of the 8th century B.C. Hosea was prophet in the land of Israel who called Jews to repent from their sins and warned them about the judgment that comes from God. He prophesied to the people of Israel during the years that Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah were kings of Judahand when Jeroboam II was the King of Israel. (782-753 B.C.) The name of Hosea means salvation or God salvation. Hosea was the son of Beeri and apparently he came from a wealthy family. Hosea married Gomer, daughter of Diblaim. They had three children who were given symbolic names that communicated prophetic messages from God to the people of Israel. The first son was Jezreel, which means God scatters. By naming his child Jezreel, Hosea was saying to the people of Israel that the punishment for the nation was to come. The second child, a daughter, was name Lo-Ruhamah that means not love. It was a sign of God’s displeasure with the Israelites for following other Gods. The third son was called Lo-Ammi, which indicated the broken marriage covenant because the Israelites rejected God. …show more content…
God asked Hosea to marry a prostitute. God mentioned to Hosea that his wife would be unfaithful to him and she would conceive children from other men. Hosea obeyed God and married Gomer. What a big challenge Hosea face with God. Hosea did not give up in his calling. God used Hosea’s unfaithful wife to show people of Israel that they were unfaithful to Him. God gave Hosea a deeper love for his wife and help him to forgive her. God is showing that His love for Israel is deep even though they are unfaithful to
