Gender Identity Disorder
After watching the documentary, I noticed that transgender people often go through a series of changes, both physically and psychologically. And during many times transgender people become anxious and depressed, and they most often start having some suicidal thoughts, and there are some people that might face bullying and self-dislike such as the girl in the documentary. According to Capuzza (2015), he proved some studies that was conducted on the transgender people showed that these types of people suffer from unusual sexual and physical abuse, as well as discrimination in during job employment in our society. I learned that many parents disagree with allowing their kids deciding what gender they want to be and they usually discourage these actions. On the other hand, there are many parents that are encouraging to their children about becoming transgender like what I saw in the documentary. From all the information that I found while researching through the books and online databases, I would tell people that the most important thing that they should recognize is that transgender people did not choose to be this way. But it is the fact that would make them start feeling that they were born in the wrong body with the wrong physicality. I feel that once people start to actually accept the fact that they are transgender people go through transitioning, in which these kinds of people go through so many different cycles in order to change the way they look so they can feel their real identity in life. I saw that there were many different procedures that could be done for those people that want to change themselves and transition. Truly, I believe that it is a personal decision to go through transitioning if it makes the person more comfortable with who they are, and I saw that some people spend their whole entire life trying to transition, which I think is completely acceptable. I really loved and appreciate how some countries give these people the right by allowing them to change their sex on their own birth certificate. Long time ago, transgender children were needed to go through therapy to stop the child or the person from wanting to become a transgender (Minter, 2012). Thankfully, it is now recognized that this is an ineffective and damaging way of therapy treatment which I think that it should not be allowed anymore if the person choice to do it. To be more clear, I feel that Gender Identity Disorder can be a very difficult thing to deal with in our society today. I also think that most people find it hard to understand how a person was physically identified as one sex can start dressing and taking like an opposite sex. I truly appreciate how the media industry provided so much help and support to these kinds of issues that transgender people go through on a daily basis such as accessing health care, psychological problems, or even the the problems with the passing of laws that gives the transgender peoples an equality like the rest of our society. After going through some databases and articles, I can now see …show more content…
These conditions might start to show as early as a childhood and it gets intensified as they get to the adolescent or the adult stage in life. Generally, people with Gender Identity Disorder feel uncomfortable from the feelings that they are carrying the wrong sex and body. (Kenneth and Bradley, 1995). Boys that are suffering from this disorder are usually dressed in girls ' clothes instead of wearing boys ' clothes. Those type of people would also try to avoid getting involved in a sport that requires masculine and rough activities (Maccoby and Jacklin, 1985). Also, these boys tend to like playing more often with the girls than playing with guys. People with this disorder wishes about have female reproductive parts than having the males ' parts, and it was especially seen with that case that we saw in the documentary online.
