Homelessness is one of our nation’s most serious social issues. People often think that homeless people are crazy, drug addicts, or just lazy people that caused themselves to be homeless. But the majority of homeless cases came from economic and political changes that were unavoidable. People become homeless from various reason. For example, natural catastrophes, losing their jobs, or being evicted.
In addition, the effects of being homeless leaves them vulnerable to abuse. Over the years there have been more than six-hundred attacks on the homeless. They have been attacked with bats, chains, and various weapons. The women were often raped. Being homeless tears a family apart. Some of the homing shelters won’t accept boys, others won’t accept kids. Sometimes a mother has to watch her children being taken from her and placed in foster care.
Being without a home has the tendency to take a terrible toll on a person. Homeless children have a higher risk of stomach problems asthma and ear infection than the other children their age. Children are also more likely to be depressed, anxious, or withdrawn. Homeless adults face the risk of serious health conditions.
