THESIS:
Despite the increasing awareness of poverty in today's society and our present efforts to diffuse them, domestic violence and the lack of affordable housing, child care, and living wages has created a profound impact on the lifestyles and experiences of childhood for homeless children in America.
1. MAIN CAUSES OF HOMELESS CHILDREN IN AMERICA
a. Some children in America face domestic violence within their homes, causing children to run away from their situations.
i. Physical, sexual, and verbal abuse, and neglect are prime situations children face in America.
b. Some children in America are from poor families who face financial difficulties, leading to loss of proper housing.

i. The situations they face causes a high number of behavioural problems and school suspensions amongst homeless children.
2. The continuity of school is important for homeless children due to the stability, skills, and support it potentially offers.
3. School offers an opportunity for homeless children to develop their social skills, interactions, and social behaviours.
a. Some homeless children lack parental guidance in social skills development.
4. SIMILARITIES OF HOMELESS CHILDREN IN DIFFERENT CONTINENTS

According to Aptekar, “the child “in a street situation” is a social actor, actively adapting his/her behaviour to the social context, by making use of what we call instrumental resources (activities, time, space) as well as symbolic ones (norms and values, relations, image of self, motivation, gender) (1).
