The time is November 10th 1938 in Grindel, a Jewish neighborhood. I hear the explosions in the distance of Germany. I’m scared for my life, unsure of what to do. Should I hide in my restaurant, or just run away and see how far I can get? The Nazis are triggering destruction all over the Jewish neighborhoods, wrecking synagogues, homes, bakeries, and even restaurants. Since the beginning of Hitler’s dictatorship, indoctrination of his crazy beliefs are the basis of German life. I, of course, don 't believe it. They teach children to believe that the Aryans are the superior race and the role of the men is to become soldiers, while the women produce the next generation of little soldiers. How crazy is that? I feel frail. I somehow managed to barely stay alive. Finding bits of pieces of food and water from a lake nearby. But one day, the soldiers are all making us walk to the train station. As I saunter, I observe many dead bodies on the floor, with either bullet marks through their heads or from vomiting too much, probably from the diseases. My shirt and pants are all ripped up, making me feel bare and naked, I can see the bones sticking out through my fragile body, especially on my stomach and arms. As I got to the trains, families are being separated and I hear so many people yelling and crying, along with the soldiers pushing us into more claustrophobic train cars. As we finally reach our destination, we were pulled out viciously causing many of us to fall out. Getting up, I eyed a Nazi down, and gave him a glance; he glanced back. I don’t know if it’s just me but he was giving off different vibes compared to the other Nazi’s. I notice the bright blue eyes he had with really dark eyelashes and his really blonde hair flowing through the wind with the same birthmark on his neck like the man before, it’s the same Nazi. As I was walking towards this really big building, the front gate says, “Neuengamme”, nobody knows what they are getting into. We were being put in groups in these rooms, which they expected thousands of us to live in. Even though there are so many people that are going to live with me, I still feel so alone. Did I just hear that correctly, is this a test. I don’t know what to say, i’m speechless. What is this Nazi talking about? Well, either way I went with it, what other choice do I really have at the moment. He then says, “ I didn’t tell anyone else but, I…. I’m jewish and I want to get away.” My eyes turn wide, he looked so much like an “Aryan” man, but I just kept quiet and tried to understand. “What’s your name?” I ask, “My name’s Frank.” He then told me about the explosions happening near where he lived, having a similar story to mine. Also telling me that when the explosions were happening, the Nazi’s presumed he was a full German or Aryan because of the way he looks, and that his last name sounded German as well. He then got sent to a military area where he was provided with a uniform and stayed as a Nazi because he was scared to do otherwise. I’m just confused as to why he is trusting me with all of this information. I then did the same and told him how I ended up where I was
