The Group of Seven is recognized by their singular pieces of art work. The individuals of the Group of Seven are ultimately the most celebrated artists in Canadian History. The fine artwork of the Group of Seven went far further than showcasing their talent. This group began with a number seven members, hence the name, Group of Seven, but as they continued as a group they eventually grew to include ten artists (1). The Group of Seven launched with artists, Franklin Carmichael, Lawren Harris, A.Y. Jackson, Frank Johnston, Arthur Lismer, J.E.H. MacDonald and Frederick Varley (2). Later came A.J. Casson (1926), Edwin Holgate (1930), and L.L. FitzGerald (1932) (3). The Group of Seven had been formed in 1913, uniting the seven painters together, but had not showcased their work as the Group of Seven until the 1920’s, which had marked the founding of the group (4). The group had been active since 1920 - to December 1931, marking their last exhibition (5). The Group of Seven had achieved many goals as a body, but the most important achievement was to bring the community to attain mindfulness about their surroundings and the true beauty that lies in their country. The group decided to explore the character of Canada’s landscapes through their art, a style that would break them from European tradition (5).
