The Day of the Dead is another name for the Catholic holiday, All Saints’ Day. All Saints’ Day is a holiday celebrated by the Catholic Church on November 1. People decorate the gravestones of their past relatives. El Día de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, takes place November 1st through November 2nd in Mexico and Central America. November 1st is reserved as the day to honor the kids and babies who died. November 2nd is the day to honor adults who have passed, known as el Día de los Muertos. Las Posadas is a holiday celebrated December 16th through December 24th in Mexico, Guatemala, and other Central American countries. Las Posadas celebrates the voyage that Mary and Joseph took to get to Bethlehem. Family and friends come together to visit, eat, pray, and sing Christmas songs. On Christmas Eve and Christmas day, families go to a midnight mass and cook customary foods. To involve the student, you may want to cook with them, or let them sing and pray in Spanish. You could set aside a special stocking for the student and fill it with meaningful things to them, along with some American presents such as candy canes and an
