Research has been done for hindsight bias and it has been shown that “Hindsight bias has explained as people’s incorporation of the outcome of an event into their memory of the event – the reconstructionist view.” (Raacke, Fryer, Nicks, & Durr, 2001, p. 350)
The purpose of this research is to mainly examine hindsight bias in the context of a sporting event with people who have previously studied and have knowledge of hindsight knowledge; it is to see if hindsight bias will exist in the predictions of the participants.
The hypothesis of this research is that hindsight …show more content…
Participants who predicted the Denver Broncos to win said they watched football all the time, which were 2 individuals, some of the time which were 14 individuals, and never who were 11 individuals.
Then on the other hand participants who predicted the Atlanta Falcons to win said they watched football all the time, which were 3 individuals, some of the time which were 8 individuals, and never who were 4 individuals.
At the end of the study the hypothesis was supported by the results, and the result was that hindsight bias existed for the prediction of the outcome for the Super Bowl.
In this study 27 participants who said the Atlanta Falcons would win also commented that they weren’t surprised by the outcome even though the opposing team won which was the Denver Broncos.
And the study also proved that hindsight bias was not affected by the present students’ previous knowledge of its existence. At the end of the study the author’s conclusion stated, “this study offers insight into the motivation involved in hindsight bias; however, the present sporting example may be unique to this particular population of students.” (Raacke, Fryer, Nicks, & Durr, 2001, p. …show more content…
However if the authors were to choose people that knew everything about football and were dedicated to the sport, they might have gotten a different result. Overall the study was great and I think I found it more of an informative study because the results for the study could always be different depending on the people used for this study. We could assume things go one way but they can always go another because of the participants.
The participants have to do a lot with the study because the participants aren’t all the same and they also don’t think alike some have opinions and you can’t really tell what they have in mind.
It could also be tested on other things in society not just the sport of football. This kind of study can be done with other things in the real world or other sports.
It would be interesting to see the results of other sports.
And at the end of this study the article gave me more understanding about what hindsight bias is and how it works and that it can be proven in many things. It got pretty interesting because it was suspenseful to see if the hypothesis would be supported according to the
