High School-Personal Narrative

I hauled my backpack into the trunk, along with my brother’s, and jumped in the passenger's side of his green ‘81 Mercedes.

“Are you nervous?” I questioned him.

“No, why? Should I be?”

“No, of course not. I just have mixed emotions, so I was wondering how you felt about today.”

“Good, I guess.” he chuckled. “High school is much different than homeschool though. Not that I would know.”

“I know.” I agreed. This was why I had such mixed up feelings. High school WAS a lot different from homeschool, just like C.J. had said. We both had been homeschooled our whole lives, up until now. I didn’t know whether to be excited for the change, or nervous for the judgement I may receive. All I knew was that Woodland High could either be the best

“Yep.” He put his arm around me.

“Don’t be nervous.” he grinned. I stared at him for a moment. He looked so handsome. He had perfectly combed back hair, new black Vans, grey designer skinny jeans, and a simple tee to complete his outfit. He would have no trouble making friends, I just knew it. Me, on the other hand, would probably have a little bit of a harder time. I had maroon glasses, which I could not see without, simple denim skinny jeans, old white (well at least they used to be) converse, a simple graphic tee, and a grey beanie to top off my outfit.

“You look stunning, Erin.” he charmed. See, this sixteen year old brother may seem like a fantasy, but we were pretty much best friends. We did everything together because we were each other's only classmates for years, until my younger brother, Elijah, came along. He didn’t affect our relationship in any way, though. When we were younger, we used to argue like crazy, but now that we were older, we rarely ever argued or disagreed about anything.

“Thank you, C.J. I was just thinking the same about you.” I smiled. We both managed to grab our schedules off of the table in the main office. After a few minutes of reviewing our classes for the year, I came to realize we had a class together! I was so excited that I was going to have a class with my best

“It’s just all going to be so different. None of you are in any of my classes, I don’t know if we even have lunch together.” We exchanged schedules to confirm that none of us had classes together. Soft, fake smiles suddenly crept onto our faces. The awkward ones that you give strangers when passing by in a hallway.…

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.--With Senior Day on the horizon, there is no doubt in the importance of the 21 seniors in the West Virginia University locker room. Tyler Orlosky is undoubtedly one of the Mountaineers' leaders and a crucial component to this season's success. The 6-foot-5, 296-pound center is probably the loudest, mouthiest guys on the team but he is also one of the most talented and has a keen sense of the game. "Smart, just really smart," WVU head coach Dana Holgorsen said the offensive linemen Orlosky. "…

High school changes people. They express themselves, become opinionated, and they start to look at the world differently as they experience things they have never encountered before. A wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” This quote is an excellent way to describe my experience in high school.…

My years in high school were quite thrilling and adventurous. Starting as a freshman, I had no idea where I was going and what was going to be expected of me. Over the years I became involved with extracurricular activities which led to my primary interest I had developed in technology and the sciences. As a freshman I joined the Students with Future Interests in Technology Club, Spanish Club, and Robotics Club. It had been a few weeks since your parents died in a tragic plane crash, though you didn’t feel all that sad. Of course, you were slightly upset, but it wasn’t that bad. Your parents had never really built an emotional bond with you. They were more like dictators, they forced you to be the three P’s: posh, proper, and polite. When you wanted to play outside with the other kids, they shook their head in distaste, your mother telling you that’s not what ladies do.…

I remember my days in high school like it was yesterday. My freshman year I didn’t really know anyone at my school because I was new to the area. Once the school year got started I began to make friends and to be known around the school. So as most people say now I look like a basketball player, back in my younger days I used to play all sports like basketball, football, and baseball. So I had decided to try out for the basketball team.…

Growing up I was always the tallest kid in the class. Whenever class picture day rolled around, I knew that I was in the front of the line because of my height. It was somewhat embarrassing when all the boys were shorter than I, and the girls made me feel bad for how out of place I was. Not only did my height provide social awkwardness, it also administered the constant, never ending struggle of finding garments long enough. Whenever my mom or grandmothers wanted to take me back to school shopping, I made excuses of “I don’t need any more habiliments” or “I do not feel good, all of the sudden…”…

This week, we discussed school and how it felt to us over the years, and explained the real meaning of multitasking and time. To me, the most important, or rather the one that stood out the most, was the lecture on school and what our ideal school would be. To most, school then and now are completely two different sides of the spectrum. When I was younger, school didn't feel like a job I would go to eight hours a day with people I hardly knew. It was fun and it was something I didn't dread going to because I didn't have as much responsibility.…
