Hi Elton: My Legacy

Decent Essays
Hi Elton,

I really like your thoughts. Yes, writing our legacy will help motivate us as educators, especially on a trying day. The writing of your legacy can also help you see where you are at as a teacher, what things you have accomplished, and what things you need to work on. The legacy we write, will help remind us, why we are doing what we are doing, and that is helping and educating kids. God bless, and best wishes to you.

    1) Describe those factors which influenced your decision to pursue a career in teaching. There were so many influential teachers that have helped shape me throughout the many years of schooling. They have been there for me when I needed to talk, when I needed encouragement, when I needed someone to just listen, and when I needed a friend. I want to be that influential teacher for many students to come in the future. I will be a positive impact on students that they will never forget.…

The 117th Founder’s Day Convocation can best be described as motivational. I was inspired by the speaker’s message which articulated that we should not defer our dreams. She said, “If we have a dream, we have a vision.” She challenged us to be like the founding fathers and see our visions to the end. She stressed the importance of not giving up even when things get tough.…

Ultimately, my purpose and responsibility after attending Howard is to ensure that future students continue to receive the same opportunities that were granted to me. One of my first commitments that will ultimately carry out my legacy is a scholarship that I intend to create as a Howard alumni. I do not aim to limit my legacy to the years following my graduation. My legacy at Howard University begins the moment I step foot on campus.…

Death is something that has crossed the mind of us all at one point or another. For some it crosses our mind as something tragic happens and has us questioning our own mortality. Others maybe more aware of their fragile mortality and wonder what happens beyond the grave. But something that is less thought of is what do those who we leave behind think of us. Once our bodies become one with the earth once again what is left of us.…

Life sucks. It’s fact. Things happen, we don’t like it. But as my mother told me one time, “It’s how you react to the things that suck in life that determines whether you’ll be happy or sad.” We can’t blame it on other people.…

The book that made a lasting impression on me and shaped the person who I am today is “Quiet Strength” by Tony Dungy. I have read this book multiple times throughout my life, the first time being when I was 13 and my mother suggested I read the book as I was selected captain of my middle school basketball team. Every time I read this book, I take a new perspective on life and take away a new quote that I try to apply to my life. One quote that stuck with me from my most recent read through, which occurred in fall of 2015, is: “It’s about the journey — mine and yours — and the lives we can touch, the legacy we can leave, and the world we can change for the better.” As a growing student leader, this statement was so powerful.…

The road to learning for American children (K-12) is currently filled with potholes and obstacles which prevent students from learning to their full potential and from progressing from one grade level to the next based on knowledge acquired. Many children are promoted each year despite their lack of meeting grade level expectations. I speak for my friend who barely graduated from high school and is now lucky to have a menial job working for Walmart. I speak for my cousin who could have used more help in school and now has five children, possibly destined to live off the state. I speak for my neighbor, a little girl in the fifth grade and only reading at a third grade level while the school refuses to provide extra help because she is progressing.…

I think that writing about an event they experienced excited them and encouraged them to help write the letter to the parents. The class working as a group is something I agree with because it makes the concepts less intimidating when all the students are being introduced to the same topic and tasks. On the other hand, the group effort provides opportunity for the children who have developed the skills to shine while the ones who may be still grasping the concept could keep to themselves and fail to follow along because individual assistance is not given. I can see myself using these techniques in my classroom and observing how the children…

A legacy is your reputation, you build it up day by day so when you do leave or die everyone will remember you forever. Great legacies are hard to come by because one slip up here or there you have to start all over again. Sometimes if a slip up is bad enough there is no fixing your legacy. Like most people I hope my legacy will be of importance and make people want to be just like me and follow in my footsteps. There is one man that has strongly preached leaving a great legacy for myself.…
