Hestia, the goddess of hearth and home, also known as the forgotten goddess because you will not find her in many stories, but she is nevertheless an important figure in mythology. Hestia and I have a lot in common because of her kind nature and love for her family.
Kronos and Rhea, the parents of Hestia, are quite opposites. Rhea, her gentle and sweet mother, loves her children and wants to protect them. Kronos, her powerful father, loves power and control. Kronos swallows the children because he was told that one of them would overthrow him like he did his father. Rhea tricks him into swallowing a rock, instead of Zeus, the youngest child. Rhea hides Zeus and protects him until he is older. Rhea reminds me of my mother. As the youngest child, my mother overprotected me.She never let me out of her sight. I’m surprised she didn’t come to school with me. When I was younger, my mother would not let me go anywhere with my friends. I always knew the answer would be no, so I stopped asking. She believed something bad might happen to me if she was not there to watch me at all times. She tried her best to keep us out of trouble. Since I was never allowed to go anywhere, I became accustomed to being at home. Hestia spoke little and stayed at home a lot as well. I enjoy being at home experimenting with new recipes or just relaxing on the couch with a good book. I consider myself more of a listener and observer than a talker. Quietness allows you to hear and see stuff you probably never noticed before. If I constantly talk, I might miss interesting information. Hestia doesn’t have any children, but she enjoys just being an aunt. …show more content…
She doesn’t want any children and plans to stay unmarried all her life. Poseidon and Apollo proposed marriage to her, but she rejected them. She took a vow to remain a virgin forever. I enjoy being an aunt to my niece and nephew even though they drive me up a wall sometimes. Donte, my 4-year old nephew, always has so much energy. He hops around all day and pounces on me when I am trying to relax because he wants to play. He only sits still when he watches cartoons. Emeri, my 18-month old niece, cries all the time. She cries very loudly.I cannot believe such a massive voice comes from a tiny baby. Emeri does not know how to pronounce my name, so she calls me mommy. I try to get her to say my name, but it usually doesn’t work. Unlike Hestia, I want to get married someday and eventually have children of my own.
Different from all the other gods and goddesses, Hestia did not get involved in fights. I try to avoid conflict at all times. During grade school, students often fought in the halls. As people crowded around to watch the fight, I would continue to walk to my classroom. I do not like drama, so I try to be kind to everyone and stay out of people’s way. Although I am kind, some people still do not like me. Many people get the perception that I am mean or stuck up because I do not smile or talk much. I continue to be nice to those who do not like me anyways. Hestia loves helping her family and people in her community. I enjoy helping others, such as my family and friends. If they need me to do something for them, I will
