Herb Baumeister's Antisocial Behavior

According to “Herb Baumeister and the Horrors of Fox Hollow,” Herb Baumeister was the oldest of four children to the parents Herbert and Elizabeth Baumeister. Baumeister’s parents perceived him as being normal, except his love of watching documentaries about serial killers. One of Baumeister’s childhood friends recalls him as being a bit odd by recalling one of Baumeister’s favorite pass times which was to play with dead animals. On another occasion he recalls Baumeister leavening a dead bird on the teacher’s desk when the teacher was not looking. Baumeister’s antisocial behavior became more apparent as he got into his teenage years. His parents decided to take him to a specialist to try and figure out what was going on. Police were getting reports of gay men missing around the area in the early 1990’s. Baumeister would frequent gay bars when his family was out of town. He would go under a different alias; he called himself Brian Smart. Baumeister would pick up gay men and lure them to his home promising them a “good time”. At his Fox Hallow Farm home he would drug them with a drink and then play out his erotic asphyxiation fantasies. During this time he would choke them to death. He would then dismember, burn, and burry the bodies in the woods behind his house. The victim’s age ranged from early 20’s to mid 40’s. Police found out about Baumeister after they received a lead from Tony Harris. Harris had been one of the gay men Baumeister picked up and did not murder. Police arrives at Baumeister residences and asked his wife if they could search the property. Juliana agrees to a search of the property after one of Baumeister’s erratic behaviors. Police find bones that belonged to 11 different men. At this time Baumeister had found out that they were looking for him and decided to leave the country. Bartol et al. explains that parental monitoring refers to the parents and how aware they are of what their child are doing when they are not around. Parental monitoring is also a stronger predictor if the child will have antisocial behavior and a higher chance of becoming more violent during childhood and adolescence. According to Baumeister’s parents he had developed antisocial behavior during his childhood and became more pronounced during adolescences. Bartol et al. states that antisocial behavior can lead to peer rejection and can later be linked to serious delinquent behavior.
