I have chosen to work towards a degree in dental surgery because of my interest in the sciences, medicine, and in research. My interest for undergraduate research has increased significantly since attending Hendrix College and my experiences thus far has made me a very well rounded student allowing me to study what I love, participate in athletics, and many other service organizations that Hendrix offers. Initially, I intended on majoring in Health Sciences, but decided against that as I realized that I was completely enthralled with chemistry and noted our outstanding chemistry department. During this week’s reading, my eye was caught by the actions of then-Governor of Arkansas Orval Faubus in the wake of Brown v. Board of Education II (1955). Even as he felt pressures from both the judicial and executive branches of government, he refused to comply with the new standards of racial equality. In 1955, the Supreme Court issued a decision on the case that came to be known as Brown v. Board of Education II, ruling that states must immediately end any segregation in their school systems immediately. Not surprisingly, many states in the South fought this new regulation tooth and nail, but the textbook raised one particularly interesting case: Governor Orval Faubus.…

I am interested in the Early College Academy because it is a great opportunity. I understand that I will have to do a lot more work here than in other schools because of the college courses, but that does not matter to me. I will still study and work hard for the duration of my time here. This is the only school in which I can knock off two years of college for free. I also like the schedule here and how it's shorter, but I understand that I will have to use the rest of the time for studying and that's alright for me because in order achieve one's goals one has to work hard and that's what I…

Reinhardt Academy was established in 1883 in Waleksa, Georgia, but didn’t officially have its first classes until 1884 when it was opened as a grammar school. Captain Augustus M. Reinhardt and his brother-in-law Lieutenant-Colonel John J. A. Sharp shared a law practice together, and wanted to open the college as a memorial to Reinhardt’s father. There were no college aged kids in the area at the time so the school commenced at a wood shop and served as a high school. The school became Reinhardt Normal College in 1890, and then officially became Reinhardt College in 1911. It wasn’t until 2010 that the school became Reinhardt University, the name it currently holds.…

As I entered into my sophomore year of high school, my future aspirations all began with one simple choice that unexpectedly turned into one of the most drastic decisions I had made yet. After my freshman year, I started attending a career academy, Carl Wunsche Sr. High School, where I chose Dental Hygiene as my career pathway. After making this choice, I had no idea how much of the spectrum of dental hygiene I would be experiencing for the next couple years of my life. I performed hands-on practicals, as well as volunteering at a continuing education course for Dental Hygienists. Progressively, I took part as a participant of a regional and state Dental spelling bee.…

My experience in this program allowed me to get a broader understanding of the Kinesiology (then Human Performance) major. After I completed the program I began to fall in love with the major and ultimately the program made my decision to declare my major as Kinesiology.…
