Throughout the United States, Greek life plays a large role in many college campuses. It has become a very controversial topic throughout the country, in regards to whether or not the pledging and hazing processes have become overtly ludicrous. Hazing has always been an issue, and has been deemed illegal in many of the states for incessant, violent situations and extreme mental and/or physical abuse. Often, law enforcement becomes involved, due to illegal acts committed by pledgers. Colleges offering Greek life within the United States should establish a hiatus regarding the hazing process, because students who are pledging will continue to destroy their well beings, provide the college excess issues if anything happens to them, and obtain

Many colleges understand that as a part of these Greek houses, students will gain fast friendships and communication skills to become leaders in the real world. As wonderful as this sounds, the processes in which new students must go through to join a sorority or fraternity have become outrageous in various ways. Allie Bidwell, writer and author of “As Colleges Curtail Greek Life, Future Unclear” discusses the potential changes developing for future sororities and fraternities. As well, Melanie Dostis, student and author of “Hazing embedded in college culture?” provides clear insight into the irrational acts of hazing. Many colleges don’t immediately eliminate Greek life, therefore not eliminating hazing, because the main purpose of the houses are to provide a small, welcoming community for incoming students. However, without implementing limitations to initiations, many pledgers are at risk of violence, humiliation, illegal acts, etc... Colleges should interact with the students leading the houses and settle on an agreement of rules regarding the hazing requirements.
