It is often said that sports can take over a lot of a student's part. It’s mostly like a balance between your social time and the other things you get to do as well. Although Elizabeth Kolbert does not say so directly, she apparently assumes that young athletes may feel pressured from parents, coaches or other players to compete in sports they are not interested in, as if they do not like it. Also, that these young athletes may fear that they are being put enormous amounts of pressure on themselves to perform at a level they are not comfortable with. Ways for example, not keeping them focus on school rather on sports, or even failing to prepare them for tests the next day. On one hand, I agree with Kolbert that sports have can distract students with their education. But on the other hand, I still insist that that really is not the case of why students are not doing that great in school. Research was shown that about ⅔ of high-schools students say that they are bored in their classroom every day at school. (Indiana University's High School Survey of Student Engagement (HSSSE) ).
