This represents the hero’s innermost cave, also known as what Harry wants through his quest. Harry, along with Ron and Hermione, face their fears and use their skills to acquire the Stone. They first have to get past the three-headed dog to get through the trap door entrance. After successfully getting through that, they continue to face a set of tests to get to the Stone. Luckily, to their advantage, each test specifically corresponded with each of their own skills. One dealt with “catch[ing] the [flying] key to the [locked] door” (Rowling 280). Luckily, Harry’s broom flying skills and hand eye coordination allowed them to catch the flying key. The three also encountered a real life version game of Wizard’s Chess, Ron’s specialty game, and were “to play [their] way across the room” (Rowling 281). Another test they had to go through was a potion puzzle. Hermione quickly realized it wasn’t “magic — [but it was] logic” (Rowling 285).
