Hamlet and Ghost are Alone, the ghost speaks and claims to be Old Hamlet
Old Hamlet was murdered by Claudius
Official story is that Old Hamlet was napping in the garden and was stung by a snake, but Claudius poisoned him and Hamlet Sr. was sent to the purgatory because he wasn’t given a chance to write right his wrongs
Ghost commands Hamlet to seek revenge against Claudius for murder and corrupting Gertrude
The Ghost doesn’t want any harm to his mother
Hamlet promises to seek revenge
Horatio and Marcellus rush in, but Hamlet refuses to tell them what happened
He says he may pretend to be insane and that both of them swear of Hamlet’s sword
Hamlet despairs at the burden the Ghost gave him

Claudius and Polonius have planned the setup between Hamlet and Ophelia
Polonius tell Ophelia to walk and act that she is reading a book
Hamlet decides whether suicide is the best option
Ophelia returns the gifts Hamlet has given to her, but Hamlet denies ever giving her a present
Hamlet asks Ophelia if beauty corrupts honesty he confuses his love for her, and then his feelings of hatred toward Ophelia
Makes a point that women are hiding their true colours behind make up
Ophelia is heartbroken
Polonius still thinks Hamlet loves Ophelia
Act III, scene ii and iii
Hamlet lectures his actors on how to act the play
Hamlet has already told Horatio about what the Ghost instructed him to do
If Claudius looks guilty on the play then he has committed the murder
Claudius, Polonius, Gertrude and Ophelia come to watch the play
Hamlet acts insane
WIth this insanity, Hamlet is showing hatred toward Claudius, he’s mocking Polonius, harassing Ophelia and disrespecting his mother
Claudius and Gertrude become uncomfortable watching the play
When the villain pours poison in the king’s ear
Claudius jumps and exits the room
Hamlet is happy that the Ghost was telling him the truth
