The 2007 version of Hairspray with Zac Efron, Amanda Bynes, Nikki Blonsky, was set in 1962 Baltimore. In this version of Hairspray Tracy Turnblad (Nikki Blonsky) wanted to be a starring dancer on “The Corny Collins Show” but was at first turned away because of her weight. Her best friend Penny Pingleton (Amanda Bynes) made a plan to get her into the show. Link Larkin (Zac Efron) was the lead male in “The Corny Collins Show.” Seaweed (Elijah Kelley) was a dancer for “The Corny Collins” Negro Day specials; he was also Penny's love interest. It also focuses on segregation in Baltimore during this time. Amber Von Tussle (Brittany Snow) was the “main” girl on “The Corny Collins Show.” She was also a major drama queen, who was all about herself, her and Tracy both wanted to win Miss Hairspray. …show more content…
I really liked the actors, and the aspects that they brought to the play. My favorite character was Seaweed even though we didn’t really see him that much. When we did see him he was always the one that I really focused on because there was just something about the way that he portrayed the character that I really liked. From the the girls I really liked Tracy because she put so much emotion and passion into the songs that she sang. As actresses I really liked Amanda Bynes because in all the roles that I’ve seen her in she was serious. Alos I really liked seeing her as the funny but conservative girl with the strict parent. I also liked how she took the character and kind of made it her own.As the actors go I really liked John Travolta who played as Edna Turnblad because for him to play a girl/woman and really take on that role and made it his was really amazing and I believe that it kind of set a standard for future roles like this

The play was interesting but the plot was strange. In all honesty, I didn’t enjoy it that much. The plot was interesting and different but other than that, I found it rather boring. My attention was never grabbed in the play. The acting was great for many of the players, all of the lead roles were phenomenal.…

Henrietta Leavitt was played by Katie Piper, Margaret Leavitt was played by Sarah Lambert, Peter Shaw was played by Morgan Gates, Annie Cannon was played by Julia Whalen, and Williamina Fleming was played by Beth Ryan. All of the actors were convincing of the roles they played, and I didn’t dislike any of the actors. Having to choose one favorite actor or character from this play is very difficult, but my favorite actor would be Ms. Ryan, who played the character Williamina Fleming. She was my favorite actor because she portrayed her character the best and she was convincing of her part in the play. I liked that she had a very comical part in the play too.…

I also really enjoyed the characters’ emotions and the producer’s typecasting. On the set, the furniture and decorations accurately corresponded to the setting of the play. The lighting designer, Michael Gend, did a superb job of keeping the appropriate amount of light during specific parts of the performance. As for the costumes, the costume designer, Eileen Gizienski, properly depicted the apparel for a wealthy family during the 1920s. The acting was a inferior attempt to keep the crowd immersed.…

I think she was best suited to play the role of Reba. Conversely, I wasn't particularly intrigued by the actions of Peachy played by Troy Beckman. There were several stand out actions such as his nuances for mischief that I enjoyed as well as the way he delivered some lines by actions that were specific to his characters- jumping and clapping his hands when he fooled someone- however, some of his other actions fell short. His performance was done well, but his energy was pushed to the background when he stood alongside Lala's dominant vitality whom he shared many scenes…

Although, there were a couple of each that really stood out to me. In the acting department the performance was extremely exciting and moving. The performers often incorporated the audience and on several occasions broke the fourth wall. They even incorporated the names of lost loved ones that the audience wrote down before the play. The performance also had a moving aspect as it urged its viewers to let go of the people they have lost and to live their lives while they still can.…

All the actors seemed very professional and owned the characters they were playing. There was just something about Abele that caught my eye. For instance, every time Brittany Caldwell (Molly in The Gnädiges Fräulein) asked Abele to rock with her in the rocking chair she did not hesitate and went overboard. She exaggerated the movement and moaning to an extent that made you laugh because she was not scared to make a fool of herself. In addition, she had her own excerpt in the begging of the scene that really set the tone.…

Tracy’s support for racial/ cultural equality leads her to big movements in the integration of the ‘’Corny Collins Show’’. It all started with the Corny Collins Show hosting an audition for a replacement dancer, Tracy and Penny decide to skip school to try out even though both their mothers do not approve of the show. When they try out for the first time, Ambers mom Velma Van Tussle is the one in charge, she tells Tracy she’d never make it on television due to her size, which not only brought her self-esteem down but made her feel discriminated. Tracy's mother Edna Turnblad thought this…

The singing, which repeated throughout the play, foreshadowed the vicious murders which was cool. Good Hair Film Analysis

In todays society the media constantly shows and glamorizes the hair of other races outside of African Americans. The term “good hair” is often associated with straight, long and silky hair types. Instead African American women hair is associated with terms like thick, kinky and nappy. These aren’t just terms anymore that are used freely instead, they’ve become very stereotypical and judgmental to the black race. This puts pressure on African American women to feel doubtful of their natural hair, so much that black women use chemicals to make their hair silky straight, which ultimately result in damaged hair.…

The lighting in the play was another aspect that I thought was very important. The lights would go off the mood of the play. This is something that definitely brought the play to life. Since the set was set up in the black and white funky layout, the lighting really enraptured the whole scene. As an audience sometimes we ignore how important this part of a play really is.…
