In the essay Are Colleges Worth the Price of Admission Andrew Hacker and Claudia Dreifus discuss whether college is worth the price students pay. Throughout the essay Hacker and Dreifus discuss if colleges are giving good value for the investments, what individuals gain from their investment and show what it looks like for an institute to being doing their job well (Hacker and Dreifus, 179). In the essay, Hacker and Dreifus talk about how colleges take on too many roles and none of those roles are executed. These roles can be anything from the librarian, professor, and even to the university president; Hacker and Dreifus express that these roles could be executed better to help the development of a college student's experience. Some ways that these roles can be executed is by engaging with students. Coming from high school, or being a transfer student can be a huge change and all a college student wants is to be welcomed and loved, one way this could happen is by faculty engaging with the students. Becoming a college teacher does not require much skill so therefore college students can sometimes get the professors that do the bare …show more content…
The problem with that is that most students don’t learn to their full extent in college. Professors do not challenge students to use their minds and thus causes the students to truly not learn how to use their skills to the best of their ability until they are in real life situations. Skills such as being able to develop new ideas, work with a group of people, and figure out what you are truly passionate

As a high school student, I all too frequently find myself bombarded with emails and postcards detailing the exuberant life of a college campus. Within the last week, I have received an email from Sarah Lawrence College that described their welcoming community and their high rating among the LGBT community, an email from University of Richmond that details their very own internship program, and an email from Soka University that proclaimed their devotion to diversity in all things. They want to sell me their college experience, not a college education. Edmundson’s article is correct in it argument that University education is tainted by consumerism. Personally, college is a different environment compared to what high school students are used to. College teaches students to be more independent relying on ourselves to take care of our studies and learning process. Take High School for example. High School teachers will constantly remind students of deadlines for assignments while professors could care less if students missed the deadline. Because college students are considered more “mature”, students are required to manage their own time checking due dates for each class themselves.…

You spend so much money in college and some students don 't come out with a steady job or real world knowledge. Jobs nowadays are less about what you know but about who you know. Students should focus more on meeting faculty on campus rather than meeting other students. Creating relationships with faculty can lead to better opportunities than students who are in the same position as you such as recommendations. College plans for whatever the future might bring but it does not promise you a job.…

In the article “Two Years Are Better than Four”, Liz Addison opposes the interpretation of modern day community colleges. In today’s society, community colleges are underappreciated and lack the respect that they deserve; community colleges are deemed “easygoing” since they are easier to get into then a so-called “privileged” college or university. Addison examines the expectations, affordability, level of education, and the growth and development of community colleges in contradiction of a four-year college or University.
