The basic rights of the Second Amendment allow us to purchase weapons and use them as we please as long as we follow the rules and laws. Gun rights were very serious rights when America was first founded and are still very serious and important. After a few shootings, the federal government decided to mark some areas as gun free zones because they were trying to stop mass shootings. Instead of further protecting the people, the gun free zones actually created more chaos by making the community defenceless. Dan Patrick said that only two mass shootings since 1950 occurred outside of gun free zones (Shelly, 2016). The people who commit these mass shootings choose to mass murder in these zones because the murderers feel as though no one will stop them; they are right, because no one will be able to defend themselves. Over and over these shootings happen in gun free zones and still the zones stay the same; unarmed and unsafe. Dan Patrick's quote mentioned above may not be 100% correct but it still shows how gun free cause more harm than it fixes.
