Gun Control 1 The Second Amendment to the United States recites that citizens have the right to possess and bear arms. The constitution was signed on September 17, 1789 and federalists declared that the new government would only have a finite amount of power delegated to it. This was not enough for the anti-federalists which included George Mason, who wanted absolute guarantees to particular rights in order to avoid any possible encroachment by the Federal government. • Provides training for active shooter situations to 14,000 law enforcement, first responders, and school officials. Helps schools invest in safety.
• Improves mental health awareness through enhanced teacher training and referrals for treatment (Summary: President Obama Gun Proposals, 2014). In conclusion, there are various opinions on what steps the United States should take in regard to gun control. A lot of these opinions come about due to emotional reasons such a personal tragedy of having a loved one lost due to a shooting and then we have ones who have not endured a personal tragedy such as this which makes it hard to empathize with the opposing position, which in turn can cause a lot of resentment on both sides. One thing is for certain, the back and forth constant arguments typically only hinder the process of finding a solution. Instead of letting personal experiences, biasness, and emotions interfere with logical thinking, it is imperative for the American people to look at the statistical data and the facts about guns in America in order to reach a mutual decision on how to improve safety while also not taking away the freedom to own a …show more content…
