On the eve of november 13th 2015 those gathered at the bataclan concert hall in downtown paris. As they watched and sang along with the tunes being played by an american band know as the Eagles of Death Metal, their night suddenly turned to chaos. As gunshots rang out from the balcony above people began to flee in every direction. “People yelled, screamed and everybody was]lying on the floor, and it lasted for 10 minutes. 10 minutes, 10 horrific minutes where everybody was on the floor covering their heads.”(paris attack eyewitness). This is a night that most will remember, that worst scenario that everyone fears. How do we react to a tragic event like this? It quite sad that our basic human instinct is to blame the weapon used for the crime committed, when it is in fact the person committing the crime that is responsible. Guns have been around for over 100 years, how many rounds a weapon holds should not dictate whether or not it should be available for purchase. With that being said i think there should be some restrictions when buying any firearm. I don't see a problem with having a waiting period before you can actually buy a weapon. I also believe that every person looking to purchase a firearm should have to complete a mandatory background …show more content…
For all of those who believe it is wrong and unnecessary for people to own firearms i say this. Perhaps they have a good reason to feel this way, and maybe they are right in a way. Afterall it seems that everytime you turn on the tv or open the newspaper there is always a story on some shooting or massacure. This alone leads americans including myself to believe that these kind of acts are becoming more and more popular. Is this really true? (kieran Healy a sociologist at Duke university) conducted a study and found that gun related crimes were higher in the 70’s than ever before including present time. If guns are so easy to get a hold of and are much more dangerous than earlier times in history than how can this be true?
