Guidance In The Outsiders

In The Outsiders by S.E Hinton, most of the Greasers are friends without families and friends without guidance. Every single one of the young men that was growing up in this war of Greasers and Socs had no prior knowledge of what they got themselves into. As a result of associating themselves with a life of violence, fighting, and being awful in general has left them lost and almost incapable of redemption. Due to the age of the teenagers, in their most important stage of development in their life, they are affected by everything they see. This results in them adopting a worldview of being atrocious or cynical as a regular thing. As illustrated by S.E. Hinton in The Outsiders, without the proper guidance and proper care in this world, teenagers can be wrongly mislead and influenced about how to live their lives. Since the beginning of time everyone has had parents or at least someone to raise them up until they are old enough to be on their own. This applies to every single human being on the planet earth and even this shows through into our literature. The process of parents raising up their children allows for the child to be guided and taught in the right ways of society and how to act in any social situation (Fagan). Hinton’s book The Outsiders, there are a lot of themes shown, but the theme of guidance without the right teachings leads to a wrong living standard stands out more than the others. From the east to the west and the greaser to the Socs there is a sort of war shown between the two groups. With all of this fighting and hatred towards one another, it creates a chaotic atmosphere of tension and even crime. The theme that stands out the most is the theme of proper guidance. In life, people can get influenced wrong and mislead, but without proper guidance and care inevitably you will be misled to live your life
