What ties a group closer together than those out in the middle of a lake, river, or ocean? Those who have experienced boating know this close bond that is formed. It is a relationship of having just each other among a vast amount of water. shared between those on the boat and other boaters. When I was in my boater's safety class, in seventh grade, our instructor, a U.S. coast guard , informed us of the number one rule of the water; one that was not in the books. She told us that when you are out on the water and see someone in need, you help. She explained how people out on the river only have each other. Through activities done on my boat I was able to learn about group relationships and the importance of each individual role.

It was a dark cloudy windy day with a strong current. Gusts of wind chopped giant white caps everywhere. Among those white caps we had seen something bobbing up and down a distance away from a boat. Getting closer to to this thing we had realized it was a drowning women. The strong wind had taken her away from her boat where she was struggling to stay afloat. We quickly steered the boat in her direction. My dad clasped onto her arm and dragged her up onto the platform where she coughed out water that she was choking on seconds ago. Thankfully, she ended up being okay. In this situation it was expected of us as boaters to do what we did. In other situations, it is not so expected. In 2009 the U.S. Coastguard's combed through 16,000 miles of the Gulf of Mexico in hopes of finding four passengers among a missing boat (Zayas 2). Even as doubt was projected on the chances of finding these men, they carried on. It did not matter that the chances of finding the boaters were slim to none, they knew the code. All the efforts made, resulted in the finding of one of the men. A tragic loss of three men also happened to be a stage of impressive group commitment, once doubted, put forth that saved one man. This event illustrates how critical the interdependence of groups

During difficult, trying times some people feel helpless and give up way too easily. Others somehow find enough strength to find solutions to their problems. Whether giving up is done consciously or unconsciously, one thing for sure is that the outcomes are two immensely distinct scenarios. A door of hope is permanently shut when the will to try is lost. On the other hand, when we hold on a bit longer and have that small push—a voice that says, “keep going,” the possibilities are endless.…

Many people aspire to be heroes, but never quite get there because they lack in drive and willpower. Nola Nadermann shows drive and willpower everyday of her life.…

The best part of living in the United States of America is the many different ethnic groups that call it home. It gives this country a unique blend of people whose ancestors originated from all over the world and of people that have recently migrated to it shores an opportunity to add a little of their culture to the mix. Of the different ethnic groups that are present in the U.S., I choose to focus on two groups that I feel have made significant contributions, along with so many others, to the fabric of America, Native Americans and African-Americans. In a lot of ways these two groups have faced overwhelming obstacles to be recognized as full American citizens and valued for their contributions. However, as time has passed, these two groups…

It took me a slight bit of willingness to give collaboration and teamwork a shot and understand what is behind it, it’s not just wanted or unwanted socialization, like I thought before, it might be the key to building a business empire, for all I can know. In the modern age, when a lot of the things are already invented, it’s hard to come up with something new on your own. It’s the innovation that rarely takes place in just one head.…
