It is the responsibility of the leader to work to create an atmosphere of trust and acceptance that encourages members to support one another. It will be a focus on forming of togetherness within the group. Conflict among group will be handled appropriately. Using activities such as icebreakers, and even warm-up activities, will be used to help in the group getting acquainted with each other, gaining one another trust, and to be able to connect different group members. At this time the leader of the group will go over rules. This can include other member’s confidentiality, respecting the group as well as individuals and the leader of the group, and to give the members there will be participation in encouraging and showing ideal behavior for the group participants. Some of these behaviors will include actively listening, respecting all members, exhibiting empathy, authenticity, appropriate self-disclosure, and giving or receiving feedback when appropriate. The personal goals of the members will be defined by the leader in hopes of what to accomplish during the group experience.
